LAW 625A - Advanced Issues In Professional Responsibility
The Advanced Professional Responsibility course will provide the opportunity to cover topics in much greater depth than the introductory course and address areas that time has not permitted to be dealt with at all or in a very limited way. Videotapes of movies and vignettes involving ethical dilemmas will be presented as an opportunity to develop discussions in a stimulating and challenging manner. Additionally, case studies likely will be presented for the students to report on and discuss in class. The operation and maintenance of attorney escrow accounts is critical to the practice of law and the avoidance of becoming a disciplinary statistic. Class time will be devoted in this area. Further, programs on Substance Abuse and the Profession will be presented. Other areas that likely will be presented and discussed are advocacy, representation of entities, free speech, trial publicity, civility and the duty to report professional misconduct. The course in Advanced Professional Responsibility will also provide the opportunity to discuss new developments and other issues in the profession. Several guest speakers likely will be utilized to present other perspectives as well. The course will be structured but nonetheless somewhat flexible from semester to semester depending on cutting edge topics in the profession that may be discussed. Prerequisite: Professional Responsibility
