ED 657 - Models and Methods for Supporting Needs of Literacy at Adolescence
Prerequisite: Core courses in the M.S.T. Program or the Literacy MS. ED.
Course Description: This course focuses on research and theory regarding the process of literacy at the adolescent level. Theories of language and cognition are considered within historic and social contexts Topics include the developmental nature of reading and writing, the relationship between the oral language and literacy development, factors that affect literacy development, and the impact of sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and brain research on literacy acquisition.
